Monthly Members Sessions : Wednesdays
Information
These sessions are only available to potters that have attended an intermediate course at Outside. Whether it's to experiment and improve at your own pace, work on a personal project or work from a shared space with fellow potters, these sessions give you time and space to do so!
You'll have a dedicated shelf in the studio to store work during the period that you are a 'member' and the shelf can stay for each additional month too.
All decorating slips, the house clear glaze and firings are included in the pack price. Clay is not included and can be purchased from the studio at standard retail price, we only use Earthstone ES5 Stoneware clay at £12.50 per 12kg bag.
This class pack is valid for Wednesday's from 1pm - 3pm. The pack starts on the first Wednesday of the month and is valid for all Wednesdays of that month.
We are also running these sessions every Thursday too, see our calendar for more information.
We supply aprons but please wear clothing that you don't mind getting dirty.
This course is suitable for ages 14+ and it will be a small group of 4 people, we will let you know with as much notice in advance of any changes to the date or time of any of the classes.
Terms, Important!
This 4-week pack is only valid for one month on the day and time specified above.
These are self-led sessions, our studio manager will be present but only for supervision not for teaching purposes.
Each member will have a 10 minute introduction to the studio set-up and the processes we have in place on their first session. The last 10 minutes of each session must be put aside for tidying and cleaning down your station.
Members can only work with classic stoneware ES5 clay as well as our house decorating slips and glazes. Our glaze firings are to 1250 degrees and we can only accommodate alternative glazes that work at this temperature. There must be a 3mm unglazed section at the base of your work to prevent work sticking to the kiln shelf, work without this glaze-free buffer will not be fired.
Each potter is individually responsible for the result of their own work. The studio manager cannot take responsibility for work that has not turned out as expected. Work must have a makers mark or must be named for firing to take place, unnamed work will not be fired and will be recycled.
If you wish to recycle your own clay, you may take your clay home to recycle otherwise you can donate your clay to the studio if you no longer wish to use it or do not want to recycle it. You may not leave clay to be recycled on the plaster batts in the studio - this is to avoid confusion as to who’s clay is who’s!
At the end of each session the studio must be tidy and all equipment and tools must be left in the same condition as you found them, if you notice any fault with any tools or piece of equipment this must be brought to the attention of the studio manager immediately.
There will be a minimum of one bisque firing in any 4-week block, but only when there is enough work to fill the kiln (this is due to costs and to reduce our energy consumption). If an occasion occurs where you do not have enough time to glaze your work in the 4-week block but, would like to pay for it to be glazed and fired, then the studio manager will do this for you.
On the rare occasion that a member of staff cannot be present we reserve the right to cancel the session and re-schedule as there must be a first-aid trained member of staff available at all times.
No alcohol can be consumed in the pottery studio during these sessions.
Failure to follow these rules will result in cancellation of your membership with no refund.
Cancellations
You have 14 days from booking in which to cancel and receive a full refund, if you have booked last minute and there are less than 14 days before the date of the class no refund of exchange will be offered, but you can transfer the booking to a person of your choice to take your place.
