Looking Sideways Live with Alex Williams *SOLD OUT*
This night is all about Alex Williams!
Local Bantham surf photographer Alex Williams will be sharing an exhibition of photos and vintage surf magazine covers from over the years along with a selection of vintage surf boards. We have invited Matt Barr to interview Alex and record the conversation for the Looking Sideways podcast.
There are few who have escaped the lens of Mr Williams. Capturing the gods of surfing, Kelly Slater, Mick Fanning and Gerry Lopez right through to the best of British, Russell Winter, Sam Lamiroy, Carwyn Williams and Gabriel Davies.
A passion for the waves and surfing at a young age led Alex towards Plymouth’s College for Art and Design in 1974 to study photography. Four years later, Alex had the cover shot on the first issue of ‘Atlantic Surfer’. The first surfing magazine in the U.K
In the early 80’s Alex co-edited ‘Surf Scene’ with Peter Cade , contributing to ‘Carve’ magazine from the early 90’s and later helped establish ‘Surfers Path’ in 1997. His pictures have also appeared in dozens of international magazines in Europe, Asia, America, South America and South Africa.
Still living in Bantham, Alex maintains a close relationship with the industry and continues to be inspired by the water and waves and those who ride them.
Arrive from 6pm for a bowl of food and the exhibition. The bar will be open all evening and the podcast recording will start at 8pm. There will be prints from the exhibition and a book available to buy on the night.

Matt Barr is a writer, journalist, author, editor, publisher and podcaster who has been working in action sports media since the mid-1990s.
