8-Week Course: Developing Techniques (Improvers)
Class Information
Over eight weekly classes you’ll continue to develop your throwing, trimming, decorating and glazing skills, building on the foundations learned in our beginners course.
In this improvers course you’ll refine the techniques introduced in Level 1 while learning new tips and approaches to improve your confidence on the wheel. You’ll explore how to use less clay, repeat forms consistently, throw on the hump, recycle clay, and attach handles or spouts to your vessels, along with other practical techniques to expand your making.
The course runs Thursday evenings from 6pm–8pm. All class dates are fixed and can’t be amended. Please see our calendar for upcoming courses.

*The last 15 minutes of each class is for tidying and cleaning your wheel/workstation.
All materials and firings are included in the class fee, we supply aprons but please wear clothing that you don't mind getting dirty! This course is for ages 14+.

Participants must be in a sound physical condition and able to sit and work at a potter’s wheel. By booking, you confirm that you are fit to take part.
Cancellations
You have 14 days from booking this course in which to cancel and receive a full refund, if you have booked last minute and there are less than 14 days before the date of the class no refund of exchange will be offered, but you can transfer the booking to a person of your choice to take your place.

Your Tutor
Stephanie Garnett
Stephanie Garnett is a marketeer by day and a potter by night. She teaches some of our taster sessions here at Outside and spends most of her free time in her home studio in Slapton, Devon producing her collection of wheel-thrown functional stoneware pieces.
She studied BA (Hons) Contemporary Craft at Falmouth University and has spent recent years building a practice rooted in functional wheel-thrown pottery, careful repetition with a meticulous attention to detail and high standards of making. Stephanie has developed a thoughtful approach to ceramics that balances function, form and finish. As a teacher, she is warm, encouraging and detail focused, helping students strengthen their process, improve consistency and grow in confidence at their own pace. Her teaching centres on process, practice and making well, through patient, hands-on guidance in every session.
